SERVICES
Gathering evidence and conducting investigations on behalf of solicitors.
Many solicitors are required to obtain their own statements and manage exhibits. It is far more cost effective for a solicitor to engage an experienced investigator rather than do the work themselves. The service covers all areas of law. Statements will be typed and accompanied by continuity evidence and unused material schedules when appropriate.
Assisting legal teams representing police officers under investigation.
Building on the experience gained in senior roles in both the police and IPCC enables the provision of quality advice to solicitors and barristers representing police officers. Additionally enquiries can be conducted and evidence gathered as tasked by the legal team. This assistance and support is available from the Post Incident Procedures through to any court or inquest proceedings.
Gathering evidence and making enquiries on behalf of Barristers undertaking direct access work.
Acting on the barrister’s instructions, statements can be taken and other evidence can be gathered. . It may be more cost effective for a barrister to engage an experienced investigator rather than do the work themselves. The service covers all areas of law.
Reviewing investigations.
Reviews can be conducted regarding current and historic investigations. Whilst they may be in support of other services that are provided, it may be more cost effective for a police force to commission an external review which in addition ensures independence. All types of review can be undertaken; undetected cases, cold cases, domestic homicides and Serious Case Reviews.
Supporting Post Incident Management training.
Having regularly delivered training to police officers whilst at the IPCC, input can now be provided on how the investigations into critical incidents are conducted. Steve has considerable experience in post incident management. Following concerns that he raised within ACPO Armed Policing on how confusing the guidance was regarding providing accounts, he was asked to be a member of a working party that re-wrote the guidance that introduced the ‘four stage process’.
Supporting solicitors during Post Incident Management processes.
Solicitors called out to provide post incident advice often need some support themselves. Who better than someone with extensive knowledge of the police and the IPCC to provide this support and be an additional pair of hands for the solicitor.

Conducting Grievance investigations and other investigations within the workplace.
It is often desirable for organisations to appoint an independent person to investigate staff grievances or other internal investigations. Such investigations usually necessitate taking staff away from their normal roles, so a more cost effective option may be outsourcing the investigation.
Miscellaneous
It is unlikely that any potential instructions will be too big or too small to take on. This page sets out a number of services that can be provided. However following over 40 years of being an investigator and 30 years as a manager Steve has developed considerable skills and abilities that are easily transferable for whatever task your organisation requires.
Additional Resources
In the event that the instructions received require additional resources, then these can easily be acquired by enlisting the assistance of former colleagues with police or IPCC backgrounds..
