

PROFILE
Steve Reynolds served 38 years with Essex Police beginning as a Police Cadet and after spending virtually his entire career as a Detective, served five years as the Detective Chief Superintendent in charge of the Crime Division. He later returned as a member of police staff to review murder investigations.

He has a wealth of experience dealing with all manner of criminal investigations, some twenty murders, numerous rapes, terrorism and police corruption.
​
During 1999 he was appointed by the Police Complaints Authority to lead the high profile investigation into the death in custody, in Tottenham, of Roger Sylvester.
​
In 2005 he joined the Independent Police Complaints Commission and played a leading role investigating the police shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes at Stockwell. As one of the IPCC’s most experienced investigators he dealt with a range of other cases including the death of Raoul Moat, Operation Elveden, (allegations of payments to police officers by News International), the Andrew Mitchell incident and allegations regarding undercover officers.

He was the IPCC’s national lead on police corruption and police use of firearms and in these roles has delivered a significant number of presentations to police audiences.

Upon leaving the IPCC he re-joined Essex Police as a member of police staff where he utilised his considerable experience reviewing undetected murders and domestic homicides.

During 2016 he was asked to lead an investigation regarding alleged failings by police during two historical investigations into allegations against a Force Medical Examiner in Norfolk made by female officers.

Upon leaving Essex Police in 2017 the consultancy business was further developed and the following are a sample of the work that he has conducted to date:

Advised a Legal team engaged on the Hillsborough inquest and another Legal
team representing an officer under investigation following a fatal shooting.
Conducted an independent investigation at a special school regarding a complaint of excessive force by a teacher.
​
Conducted an investigation into allegations of fraud regarding the termination of time share agreements on behalf of a company representing victims and provided evidence to the Financial Conduct Agency and Trading Standards.
​
The majority of his work has been gathering evidence for solicitors conducting private prosecutions as well as those engaged in defence work.
